Thermal bath packing tips
Budapest's thermal baths are a highlight of any visit, but a few items make the experience far more comfortable. Most baths rent towels (around 1 500–2 000 HUF / €4–5) and some provide cabins where you can leave valuables, but they issue a wristband key rather than a padlock. A small waterproof pouch keeps your phone and locker key dry poolside.
Flip-flops are essential — mandatory in most changing rooms and poolside areas for hygiene. A swimsuit or swim trunks (not board shorts at some traditional baths) is required. In winter, pack a second swimsuit so you have a dry one for the journey back.
Currency and payments
Hungary uses the forint (HUF) — bring or withdraw cash for smaller purchases. Card payments are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and tourist sites, but smaller cafes and market stalls may be cash-only. Use bank ATMs (OTP, K&H, Raiffeisen) rather than Euronet machines.
