When the Budapest Card is worth it
The Budapest Card makes financial sense if you plan to take more than 8–10 transit rides over 2 days (each single ticket costs ~450 HUF), visit at least 2–3 paid attractions, and want the included Danube cruise. The Danube cruise alone (worth ~5 000–10 000 HUF for a standard 1.5 h cruise) often tips the balance in the card's favour.
The card is less useful if you plan to rent a bike and cycle everywhere, stay close to a single neighbourhood, or prefer to walk. In those cases, a 24-hour or 72-hour transit pass (~2 500–3 500 HUF) covers your transport needs more cheaply.
Where to buy the Budapest Card
Buy at Budapest Airport, main metro stations (particularly Deák Ferenc tér), BKK customer service offices, and select hotels. Avoid buying from street vendors. The card activates on first use, not at purchase.
